We spent a couple of days in San Cristobal de las Casas; a pretty little town with lots of old haciendas converted into fancy hotels and restaurants. But the weather was not on our side so we didn’t explore that much.
It’s also, historically, an important center for the preservation of the Chiapas cultural heritage. The city is even named after Bartolomé de las Casas; a priest who dedicated his life to supporting and protecting the Chiapas.
So we went to visit the house of Franz and Gertrude Blom who found a clever pun « Na Bolom » with their name and the Chiapas language meaning « house of the Jaguar ». The couple, an archaeologist and a photo journalist, turned their house into a museum and a research center dedicated to the Chiapas.

And then the bus took the longest possible route from San Cristobal to Palenque (supposedly because the shorter route is more dangerous), so we got to see this beautiful lake on the way.
